Before losing access to the 3d printer at OlyNet I decided that I will need a 3d printer. To understand 3d printing more I chose the hard way to plan, design and print my own 3d printer. Huge thanks goes out to Mark Rehorst who provides tons of info about building your own printer and is active in every forum you can imagine.
Status
Consistently improving the printer.

Power Consumption
I installed a Volt and Amperemeter to measure the power consumption. The buildplate heater has by far the highest current draw with roughly 3 A. Everything else together is at approximately 0.6 A. So I insulated the bottom of the build plate with foam wrapped in tin foil.
Quick maths:
(8s * 3.6A + 27s * 0.6A) / 35s * 230V = 296 W
(7s * 3.6A + 42s * 0.6A) / 49s * 230V = 237 W
237 W / 296 W = 0.8 -> 20 % energy savings
